About Us

Welcome to the Metro DC Lawn and Garden Blog — your source for all things green in Washington, DC and surrounding areas. If you’re looking to swap tips, share stories, have more fun, and take better care of your lawn and garden, then you’ve come to the right place!

The Metro DC Lawn and Garden Blog is sponsored by a group of county and town governments in the Metropolitan Washington DC region. Our goal with this blog is provide an informal — semi-official — channel for discussion with our citizens about lawn and garden care in our communities.

We strive to make our communities as green and inviting as we possibly can. We want you to know about the lawn and garden-related services we provide.

Last, but not least, we want you to practice responsible lawn and garden care — using fertilizers, pesticide, and irrigation judiciously!

About the Blogger:

Hi, my name is Betsy Franz and I’m the lead blogger for the Metro DC Lawn and Garden Blog.

As a freelance writer and photographer I specialize in Green topics, nature, wildlife, gardening and the environment.

For the last ten years, my primary focus has been on educating people about what they can do from their own homes and yards to take better care of the environment.

My motto: "I don't just hug trees. I fondle flowers, caress critters and play in the dirt!"

My articles and photographs have been featured in many magazines including Grit, E - The Environmental Magazine, BassTimes, Spirituality and Health, Florida Wildlife, South Carolina Wildlife, Outdoor Delaware, Spaces, Your Big Backyard, Louisiana Conservationist, BackHome Magazine, Natural Awakenings, Lake Country Journal, American Forests, Birdwatcher's Digest, Mother Earth News, Whole Life Times and others.

One of the great things about being a writer is the wonderful people that you come in contact with while researching your topics and I hope to meet a lot more of you while working on this project.

So let's snip off and share a few pieces of our garden wisdom and see what we can get growing together!
